Absorbing, visually had some quite beautiful moments, hypnotic didn’t take my eyes off of the screen - same comments for the soundtrack- perfectly matched.

It's great that we have such a diverse range of films. Really enjoyed this one - even the techno music ! The scenes with the night vision goggles were spectacular. The film had a lot to say and the performances were excellent - particularly 'Alex'.

An interesting film that lingers on in the memory. The last twenty minutes or so were enigmatic and left the viewer to make up their own mind as to what was happening and what it meant. Great acting and plenty of food for thought.
Interesting take on immigration stories. Enjoyed learning more about the Foreign Legion, seen through Alex's eyes.
Thought-provoking and well acted film that took me into some areas that I knew nothing about. We joke about the intensity of the French Foreign Legion without really knowing the purpose of it. We rarely hear news of the conflict in the Niger-Delta as it's been going on for so long. The character was also naïve in his outlook and quickly learned that the grass isn't greener through his own bitter experience. He was exploited and left in a state of mental breakdown. A sad film that drew attention to real situations using believable characters.
Well chosen theme, good acting and very good directing.

Pretty good film. Quite episodic so no clear narrative structure but some really excellent parts. Some loose ends also because of the 'non-narrative' structure. Don't know why there was a 'warning' about the 'techno' music - wasn't THAT much of it and it was pretty quiet compared to a real club!
Continuity difficult to follow at times. Franz Rogowski a very good performance.
Obscure visually and metaphorically, Too many longueurs. Glad to have seen it.
Disjointed and surreal but curiously intriguing too. Thankfully short.
A bit too abstract for me.
For me the film lacked narrative 'cohesion', relying entirely on inference to bring together the different components of the story. That said, Aleksei is the central character of the story but it would have been more satisfactory to know what happened to the remaining members of the patrol. Basically I didn't think that the film matched the hyperbole of the Notes.
Lacked coherence, more of a fantasy trip which had a simplistic narrative but that was so opaque I wouldn't have followed it without the flyer.
Interesting contrasting the two experiences in parallel. Plot lost its way towards the end.
A nicely made film without graphic violence but I'm not sure what the point of the story was.
The film was gritty and got across the dangers of young men taking big risks to get a better future. The use of mercenaries to protect the Wests interest in oilfields at terrible cost to the environment and local communities came across well. A realistic film. The ending let the film down. Perhaps that’s the message. Disco is all there is for our hero and all he wanted. Quite bleak.

A bit uninspiring really, though it had its points. I thought its anti-colonialism lacked subtlety.
No flow or sense to the film without any dialogue, & the heat filming sequence was a crass idea.
Possibly the worst film I've seen at CFS. Narratively clumsy and offering no real tension as it slopped from one sequence to another. The lead character had only one, static, facial expression and the attempts to suggest emotional and sexual energy failed completely. My most positive response was that it was blessedly short.

Couldn't bear to see after seeing the review from Sight & Sound , "brutal training", conflict, guilt etc. Why all these grim, mostly unrelenting misery laden films? Thoughtful films, Foreign language, non -Hollywood YES. But your selections since I joined the Society big No and I won't be renewing. And the seats are very uncomfortable, parking in dark and then getting to theatre from parking on foot is downright scary.
