We start the first half of the season with two films in September, beginning with When Autumn Falls, a terrific François Ozon mystery, followed by a quirky, heartfelt and original ‘claymation’ piece of art from Australia, Memoir of a Snail.
There are three films in October; a visually stunning Italian family drama, Vermiglio, and the first Iraqi film CFS has shown - The President’s Cake - a film which united the Viewing Panel in its praise. Then a bold piece of gothic cinema from Denmark, The Girl With the Needle, the bleak but compelling story of a young woman struggling to survive in post-WWI Copenhagen.
A tense, Swiss hospital drama, Late Shift, starring an outstanding Leonie Benesch (The Teachers’ Lounge), follows in November. You can also watch the gritty, political drama The Secret Agent, filmed with the atmosphere of a vintage 1970s American thriller which revisits a defining period in Brazilian history.
We end the first half of our season in December with DJ Ahmet, a vibrant, culturally rich drama from North Macedonia, and finally something very different, Hen - a hen’s eye view of a dangerous world, starring a hen!

FIND CHELTENHAM FILM SOCIETY
We meet on Tuesdays, every two or three weeks between September and April. The films start at 7.45pm and are shown at the Bacon Theatre, Dean Close School, Cheltenham, GL51 6HE. Entry is from Hatherley Road, opposite Deacon Close. The films are shown on a cinema-sized screen with excellent sound quality. The venue is comfortable, with tiered seating and good accessibility for less mobile people. There is ample parking nearby, but it can be crowded so allow time to find a space. Coffee, tea and snacks are available before films and the bar is also open before and after the films. |
